Operations Base, Training Camp and
Environmental Education Centre

The Operations Base, Training Camp and
Environmental Education Centre from the air.

CLZ's new Operations Base, Training Camp and Environmental Education Centre officially commenced operating on Jan 28th, 2004 and all agree that this will be a useful and beneficial asset to the organisation and the Lower Zambezi Area. It is strategically located on the banks of the Zambezi River in the eastern side of Chiawa GMA only 5 minutes from the LZNP western boundary and 15 minutes from the nearest airstrip, where CLZ's wildlife monitoring plane is stationed

The new premise is the operational centre for CLZ’s assistance to ZAWA in the protection of the LZNP and surrounding Game Management Areas. Is also the heart and hub of CLZ’s new Environmental Education Program (EEP).

The centre has been designed to be multifunctional and as a result the camp is a hive of activity most of the year. Weather it be ZAWA patrol officers moving to and from the field, researchers utilising it as a base or the Community, Safari Tour Operators, Stakeholders and ZAWA taking advantage of meetings and workshops which CLZ often facilitate.  CLZ also organise and host a number of training courses throughout each year for both ZAWA Wildlife Police Officers and Lower Zambezi Safari Guides as well as the annual Lower Zambezi Safari Guide examinations. It is hoped that in 2006 it will also include a training facility for Zambian Safari Guides.

Thanks must go to the Royal Danish Embassy for their continued support, not only for making the construction of the new site possible but also for all the equipment that came with the project and funding.
